New groups for home-educated students!
Come along and try sailing - it really is fun!

We were pleased to welcome two groups of home-educated students to Neptune last year. They enjoyed a varied set of activities using our range of dinghies and were able to begin their pathway through the RYA Junior syllabuses with some success. We are very keen to continue to provide activiteis fro this group.
This year we are hoping to form two groups, with opportunities for the more experienced sailors to progress to even higher RYA Levels. The groups will take place on Mondays and Tuesdays.
The Monday group will probably be a whole-day session, with a break for lunch, depending on numbers. This will enable students to experience a range of tidal conditions.
The Tuesday group will consist of a morning and an afternoon session, either of which students can opt for. This has the advantage of providing beginners with a gentler introduction to sailing.
Last season, our team enjoyed working with these groups and were very pleased to award a large number of certificates, some as high as RYA Level 3! This represents a very good level of skill and understanding, and hopefully was a really enjoyable activity. There is some content to learn, but at the beginner levels this is taught outside of the classroom.
These groups will begin on 5 & 6 May 2025.
If you are interested in joining one of these groups, get in touch, using our contact form.

More details
Initial sessions will use our Wayfarer dinghies, with an instructor aboard. This enables us to develop children’s confidence on the water, and to build the good habits needed for single-handed dinghies. We will move on to use Topper and RS Zest dinghies, with reduced sail sizes, as the course progresses. Sailors will need to be confident that they will be able to handle the dinghy, either alone or with a partner in the early stages.
Fees
The fee for the course will be £128, and can be paid in two instalments if needed.
We aim to keep session fees as low as possible and we recognise that the present time may be difficult for many parents. We are trying to offer some taster sessions, at no cost, before you commit to joing a group. Each group will operate in a four-week block of time and you may withdraw after each block.
Personal equipment
Beginners will not need a wetsuit during the initial Wayfarer sessions, though they will be needed for Topper dinghies. Neptune does have a small number of wetsuits, but they are usually quite small. Your personal wetsuit will be a good fit and will keep you warm if you fall into the water. As children grow very quickly, it is not worth spending a large amount, and local supermarkets and outlets have a selection at sensible prices.
Neptune will issue a buoyancy aid to all sailors and also has a range of waterproofs available. Your instructors will give you good advice regarding what you should wear.
