We have been pleased to offer the Dinghy Instructor Course at this centre for many years and our candidates have been very successful. We aim to provide a quality course, and excellent support is provided throughout the week by the RYA Coaches who deliver the course. We have held our course fee at £410.00, which includes the pre-assessment fee.
You can expect to lead activities on the water and will be thoroughly de-briefed after your activity by the the other candidates and the coaches. Theory work is tackled throughout the week and you should spend time before the course making sure that your background knowledge is secure.
At the end of the week you will work with a group of local young people and take them on to the water in preparation for the final moderation. Your moderating coach will observe your work and spend some time in your dinghy with you and your young crew.
This is a demanding course, but the coaches will encourage you to develop your instructor skills in activities on the water, in the classroom and with simulators, all of which are assessed on the moderation day. You should expect to be challenged, to learn a lot about instructing in a dinghy, to demonstrate your confidence in teaching sailing and most importantly should even enjoy the course!
We offer a number of opportunities to practise your skills in double-handers during May, prior to the pre-assessment test. This year's group found this a very useful way of preparing for the course. If you are concerned about coping with tidal waters, picking up moorings, or just want to practise sailing without a rudder, let us know. There is a £60 charge for the pre-assessment test.
