RYA Dinghy Instructor Courses 2018 - enrol or register interest

Already we have had very strong interest in our Dinghy Instructor courses for 2018 and it seems that the 2-6 July course (just after GCSE exams finish) is likely to be full.
There has been sufficient interest to offer a course during the Easter holiday period, and we have now arranged coaches for both courses. This will give those who qualify the chance to work the whole season. We do need you to register an interest or enrol now.

Dinghy Instructor Courses

Practising for the pre-assessment test

We have been pleased to offer the Dinghy Instructor Course at this centre for many years and haveattained a high success rate with our candidates. We aim to provide a high quality course, and you will get excellent support from the RYA Coaches who deliver the course throughout the week.

You can expect to lead activities on the water and will be thoroughly de-briefed after your activity by the other candidates and the coaches. We will provide an opportunity for you to gain experience of teaching sailing at a centre for people with disabilities. This is always enjoyed by candidates. Theory work is tackled throughout the week and you should spend time before the course making sure that your background knowledge is secure.

At the end of the week you will work with a group of local young people and take them on to the water, in preparation for the final moderation. Your moderating coach will observe your work and spend some time with you and your young people in your dinghy.

This is a demanding course, but the coaches will encourage you to develop your instructor skills in activities on the water, in the classroom and with simulators, all of which are assessed on the moderation day. You should expect to be challenged, to learn a lot about instructing in a dinghy, to demonstrate your confidence in teaching sailing and should even enjoy the course!

We offer a number of opportunities to take part in on-water training during March, prior to the pre-assessment test. This year's group found this a very useful way of preparing for the course. If you are concerned about coping with tidal waters, picking up moorings, or just want to practise sailing without a rudder, let us know. There is a £50 charge for the pre-assessment test.
